A client of mine uses CBD (cannabidiol) and swears by it. She uses it to assist her with sleep, sore muscles, even bug bites. I’ve observed her live her life with the help CBD for the past six months. I can say with absolute certainty CBD has been a positive addition to her life.
She is sleeping better. This consistent pattern of quality sleep is the foundation of healthy sustainable health. She slept through the entire night the other day. I can’t remember the last time she told me that (or if she ever has).
CBD 101: What I Think You Should Know
CBD differs from marijuana. When a someone uses marijuana they receive a mind-altering high from the psychoactive properties of THC. They may also receive therapeutic benefits. This is from the compound CBD. CBD oils contain concentrations of CBD without the THC.
We Naturally Produce CBD
Our bodies actually naturally produce cannabinoids (CBD). We have receptors called CB1 and CB2 receptors. They are throughout our body. Most of these receptors are located in our brain.
The CB1 receptors in our brain handle coordination, movement, pain, emotions, appetite, and thinking. THC will attach to these CB1 receptors.
It is believed that CBD oil helps the body use more of its preexisting cannabinoids. This means in theory, CBD oil can help your pre-existing CBD attached to the CB2 receptors.
This can yield results that may have a positive impact on those struggling with:
- Smoking/drug withdraws
- Epilepsy
- Cancer
- Anxiety disorders/Panic attacks
- Type 1 diabetes
- Acne
- Early stages of Alzheimer’s
My Overall Takeaway
We don’t know for sure that CBD can solve these problems. There simply isn’t enough research to state, “CBD oil works without any consequences.” Although, it is hard to argue against the plethora of testimonials from people who swear by CBD. It’s ability to heal their cognitive or physical ailments truly is amazing.
The New York Times just did a deep dive on CBD. I highly recommend checking out what they had to say. CBD oil without a doubt has staying power and may be more than just a fad.
