I think intermittent fasting (or I.F.) is great. * (I’ll refer to intermittent fasting as I.F.)

Why do I think it’s great?

I.F. provides structure. There is a defined time to stop and start consuming calories.

Why does this matter?

It matters because it’s not complicated. There’s a bazillion different diets out there (for real, I did the math). You stop and begin at a pre-determined time.

“ In order to lose body fat we must consume less calories than we burn…If we do this we lose body fat.”

What is an easy example of I.F.?

There are three popular methods of I.F.

  • 12 hour fast
  • 16 hour fast
  • 20 hour fast

I recommend 12 hours for beginners. This means if you stop eating (or drinking) at 9:30pm you do not consume anything (except water) until 9:30am the next day.

“12 hour fast…if you stop eating (or drinking) at 9:30pm you do not consume anything (except water) until 9:30am the next day.”

Simple enough.

The most common reason most people diet or begin I.F. is to lose body fat. In order to lose body fat we must consume less calories than we burn. Period. The end. When we do this we lose body fat. At face value, losing body fat is not a complicated matter.

Losing body fat becomes complicated when we distract ourselves or allow ourselves to become distracted by the world. This is obviously a really easy trap we all fall into.

How can I minimize distractions to lose body fat?

I recommend finding a committed accountability buddy. For all of my clients I fill that role in some capacity. You don’t need a personal trainer, but you do need someone reliable that will not quite or flake on you.

Christian’s final take on I.F.

If you feel like your world is complex, your brain is running a million miles a second, and you can’t lose body fat no matter what you try I.F. may be for you.
